This sauce can be made for less than the price of jarred spaghetti sauce, and takes less time than you'd think. Estimated cost: $2.00 for about four cups of sauce (about eight servings).
Ingredients:
two small (6oz.) cans tomato paste, plus four (6oz.) cans water
one small can diced tomatoes
two bouilion cubes, beef or chicken
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 Tbsp. fresh herbs (or 2 tsp. dried), such as basil, oregano, or thyme
1 tsp. minced garlic
salt and pepper to taste
Combine all ingredients, bring to a boil and simmer 20-30 minutes until thickened and flavors have blended.
